Sacred Ordinary Celebrates Its First Birthday

It was one year ago today that I joined Typepad and birthed this weblog—Sacred Ordinary. My first entry was "Save Myself From Self Absorption," which in hindsight, is a contradiction in terms. What are we bloggers if we aren't self absorbed? At first Sacred Ordinary was a lark, though I said I would try to post daily for a year and see how it went. Because I suffer from the three Ps--perfectionism, procrastination and paralysis--I went to you to ask for advice. Even though I'm no longer a practicing Catholic, I carry guilt for almost everything. I found that I simply couldn’t post every day because of time constraints—or because I didn’t have access to a computer—or I just didn’t feel like it.
Very quickly I decided that blogging was a natural for me because I love to write and horse around with photography—and I thought I didn’t really care if I had any readers except a few family members and friends. To my great surprise, hardly any of my family and friends visited, but many casual friends and brand-new cyber friends did come to visit. I was pretty astounded today to check Sacred Ordinary's stats which reported I wrote 340 entries, received 140 comments and that the total number of hits to date are 20,529, and that the average per day are 56.09. I’m counted in there at least a few times a day when I view the site after posting—and sometimes a few times a day to see if anyone commented.

Thanks to all of you who have made my experience at Sacred Ordinary such a positive experience for me. And here are a few other famous birthdays for today:

    Leonardo DiCaprio, 1974, age 30
    Calista Flockhart, 1964, age 40
    Demi Moore, 1962, age 42
    Bibi Andersson, 1935, age 69
    Jonathan Winters, 1925, age 79
Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., 1922, age 82
