Many of you who read here also read Loretta Benedetto Marvel’s Pomegranates and Paper blog and I wanted to show a beautiful cloth brooch she gave me when she visited recently.
She taught a class on making this cloth rosette last month at Tinseltrading in Bronxville, NY. She has ongoing classes at the same store and you can see her classes on the left side bar of her blog as well.
Loretta is a gifted mixed media artist and she is also a regular columnist at the magazine Cloth Paper Scissors. Her CPS article in this issue is called "On Monday We Do the Wash" and some of her art is shown as well. Loretta is an artist with words as well as mixed media.
Loretta, her husband and her two daughters were in Redondo Beach recently for vacation and you can see some wonderful So Cal photos at her blog. I got to spend one evening with her so we caught up from the last time we saw each other in New York, at least four years ago.
And here are “the girls” in the lobby of the Portofino Hotel as they prepared to embark on their dinner night out at Zazou in Redondo Beach. The hotel is only about a mile from my home and Zazou is a mile south from there. In the "Big Storm of 1988", the Portofino hotel and yacht club sustained significant damage, as did several other waterfront properties. Times passes and everything has been restored even more beautifully than it was before.
If you read Loretta’s blog, you will see that they returned to New York and were welcomed with 10 inches of snow. They are ready to come back, although our own So Cal weather has turned on us again. But, ah, we know the sun will be back soon--and that daylight savings time begins March 9. Hooray!
