This book by Aimee Bender really fascinated me. Though I had some difficulty initially trying to figure out what had happened when young Rose began to be "gifted" or "cursed" when she felt the feelings of the cook who cooked the food, I stuck with it--and I'm glad I did.
This is the review BookSlut gave to Lemon Cake.
If you've read it, give me your impressions. If not, I recommend it.
"The fabulist elements of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake are stunning, but what makes this novel a keeper is the sheer beauty of the language Bender uses to describe love."
