As Rebecca Brooks and her group of friends fly to San Miguel de Allende today for their annual trek to celebrate the Day of the Dead, I offer my SoulCollage® card for La Calaca Love. I've been very busy lately and am sad I haven't participated more.
I call this card Beautiful Death and I especially want to acknowledge the abstract skull as one of Alex Grey's spectacular images. I made this card in our monthly SoulCollage® group. I have several death cards in the Council suit, but I think I like this one best.
I am the one who respects and honors the sacredness of death, but I am afraid of the process of dying. I think one of the reasons I have embraced the Day of the Dead so lovingly because it helps me to "dance with death" so the fear dissipates some. It also gives me an opportunity to honor my beloved family and friends who have died. I am the one who will assemble my own ofrenda, or altar, this weekend, as I do each year. I am also going to San Pedro's Day of the Dead Celebration on Nov. 1, but I admit to also wishing I was with Rebecca in San Miguel de Allende. Perhaps next year I will be.
If I could ask this card a question, and later I will in my handwritten journal, I would say, "As a woman in her sunset years, please reveal to me how I can continue to look at death as beautiful rather than dreading the decline of my dear ones (and my own) in the time left to me on Earth."
