On this rainy evening, it seemed healing to me to do art. I did two pages in my altered book and then Seena Frost's Soul Collage technique called me. As a collage artist, it's pure gift when you end up with 50 art magazines from the '80s--and that's what my school librarian gave me last week. Talk about sacred ordinary!
This card is a death archetype card in the Council suit. Seena says this suit honors the great, over-arching themes in life such as death, love, courage, reflection, loneliness, for example.
I call this card, "Owls Calling Our Names." As a person growing older, I'm realistic about my earth time shortening, but as my spiritual director has often suggested, make death familiar. In fact, she suggests "dancing with death" to take the fear out of it.
It was a great evening to cut images, listen to the news in the background, hear the rain pounding on the skylight, and scatter paint, inks, stamps, scissors and art supplies throughout my bedroom which is also my office and art room since my grandkids came to live here. I have grown used to all "my stuff", including the kewpie dolls and the dog, being in one large space. I separate the office/art area with a white screen so when I'm in bed it seems more like a sacred space for sleeping.
