Those of you who are excellent computer techies, considering "the big stuff" going on all around the world, forgive my little rant about feeling like being in a foreign country getting a new Mac Mini and the process of transferring the data. My friend Ellen, a Mac tech, came yesterday to make the transfer and hook up all the wireless stuff for both computers. Well, my G4 Quicksilver had a corruption and she had to wipe the hard drive and rebuild it. Hours upon hours. Then came the easy part--the wireless. Only I have Verizon everything including DSL and the Verizon techs couldn't get the thing up and running. Ellen is a full-time student and won't be able to fit me in for a while and I'm great with using software, but I'm a dork with tech details.
After more phone calls to Verizon today this tech says, "Oh, Verizon isn't compatible with Airport Extreme." I was enraged; why in the heck didn't they tell us last night in the 40 minute tech call? He connected me with Apple who says of course Airport Extreme is compatible with Verizon, but that my Mac Mini needs another card. I read him out my bill which clearly says I have built in Airport Extreme and Bluetooth. Fortunately, Apple has a store in the Manhattan Beach Village Mall, so now I am off to there and they say they will do whatever it takes to make everything work. For a price, I suppose.
I love Apple; I hate Verizon DSL and the technical service. I may yet switch to Earthlink who didn't have DSL available in my area when I bought it a year ago--but does now.
Rant over. Back at work, a thousand things pulling at me, but not once have I watched or listened to the news today. I just keep praying that everything is going more and more smoothly. No word from Ray's daughter today, but I have a feeling that within the next few days he and Hazel will be in Texas with his kids and grandkids.
