One week after my return from Turkey and Greece, I woke up this morning feeling refreshed and relatively pain-free. Slowly I have been re-accessing memories that I buried in the hustle and bustle of all the travel and my immediate return to work. Now that I've pretty caught up around the house and yard, I’ve begun to really “look” at my photos and write remembrances.
However, I’m totally aware that what I found enormously interesting is my sacred ordinary (though it feels extraordinary still to me) but all of you are beginning the countdown to the holidays—and so am I. The lengthy travelogues of others can be boring--although you'll see a photo or memory turn up now and then in the weeks and months to come.
Indulge me one more time. Here’s a photo from the old city of Rhodes.Through the Byzantine arch, you can see yet another church. This trip has been like tossing a pebble into a still pond. The rings and ripples gather momentum and crash into the shore—for a very long time. Probably the rest of my lifetime.
So, it is back to my own sacred ordinary days of long cuddles with Cookie, meals with old friends, volunteering at the library, getting my hair done, reading, and going to church this morning. My ex husband and his new wife are hosting Thanksgiving for our one daughter and two grandkids who will be in town--and I'm invited, too. Otherwise, at Villa Redondo, it’s a chilly, marine layer day with the holidays bearing down. I’m not psychologically ready. Are you? What are you doing for the holidays?
