Last Sunday I attended a very joyous dinner party celebrating my friends Chuck and Frances's 60th wedding anniversary. They are both 83 years old and spry as can be. Their 5 children were there and many of their 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
I can remember the party they had for their 25th anniversary at their home and we young whipper snappers short sheeted their bed. This time the party was in a restaurant, hosted by their family, so we didn't cause mischief.
Their children had an iMac set up with photos of them as adolescents and several of their wedding day in Texas in 1950.
Chuck and Frances have always loved dancing and here they are at the "first dance" part of the celebration.
To say that the Hardy's have had an interesting life is an understatement. Both of them are retired teachers, but Chuck and his three daughters toured the U.S. as The Hardy Family Acrobats every summer. They even appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show way back when. (I thought an episode was on YouTube, but I can't find it.)
Yes, I have mixed emotions when I attend such a special occasion because though I was married 27 years, I dreamed of "Until Death Do Us Part." It just didn't work out that way. But, I am very grateful for my friends who have had long, committed, successful marriages. Yaaaay, Chuck and Frances.
