Have you heard about the fair trade company called Ten Thousand Villages? It is a non-profit organization with unique international gifts and right now the only store in the Los Angeles area is in Pasadena, but soon there will be one in Redondo Beach's Riviera Village. It is called South Bay Villages and it will be located at 1907 Catalina St., Redondo Beach, just a few doors from Harmony Works.
Above are some of the volunteers who welcomed the community to come and visit their soon-to-be-completed store. They are (from left) Sandy Hammersmark, Barbara Barr, Chuck Brauer and Maureen Gold.
We were treated to free Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream this morning and encouraged to become part of their undertaking--and to visit often once they are opened. Right now the volunteers are refurbishing a space formerly occupied by a clothing store and the volunteers were going to paint as soon as their meet and greet event was over.
At their website it says, "A group of South Bay residents have been looking for a way to make a genuine, compassionate difference in our world, but we did not really know where to put our energy. We decided to try and open a Fair Trade gift store in the South Bay called Ten Thousand Villages .
We now have a location picked out: 1907 S. Catalina Ave, Redondo Beach 90277 where soon we will be part of the company that has 60 years of retail business experience and operates a network of more than 390 retail outlets throughout the United States."
The Riviera Village Hometown Fair is June 28 and 29, 2014 and Ten Thousand Villages will open that weekend. I hope all of you will come out and support this store. Like them at their Facebook page, and you will receive all the news from the volunteers who are making this happen.
